>I am having problms will AOL mail, they create a ndis.sys
whoa, this list had one of these ndis bizzaroids this week, check the
archives. I think the killer msg was already in an Imail box and
every time it was read, it BSOD'd Imail and/or NT.
>Since I am new to web administration I am almost positive that it is
>a DNS record problem.
aka "non sequitur" :))))
>I have to get a new DNS host and would like to do it right this time
>so here goes my newbie records...
This will increase the ambient temperature slightly and pass the
time, but have no other effect, esp not on your problem.
>These are for a stand alone server (not a DC) and two domains
>normlmn.org, and dandirksen.com running both Imail and IIS5 on win2k server
>
>A normlmn.org -> 63.228.60.105, www.normlmn.org ->63.228.60.105
>MX normlmn.org -> normlmn.org
Create a hostname or 3 for the mail functions and another for the MX hostname:
normlmn.org. MX 10 mail.norlmn.org. ;
mail MX 10 mail.norlmn.org.
pop A 63.228.60.105 ; pick pop mail here
smtp A 63.228.60.105 ; send SMTP AUTH mail here
webmail A 63.228.60.105 ; eponymous hostname
In Imail, Official Host Name is normlmn.org with mail host alieas of
mail.normlmn.org
>CNAME - Do I need one?
If you have to ask.... :))))
Avoid CNAMEs wherever possible, which is everywhere.
>*same for dandirksen.com
>
>but I am probably way off.
Now you're talkin.... :)))
Sounds like Ipswitch needs to hop on this one, there's no way msg
contents should bring down mail server or automatic spawn ndis
files??? But we know from repeated experiences that Imail SMTP
processes can be zombied when trying to send "bad" msgs in the outgoing queue.
