My main problem with HTML E-mail is that lots of mail clients default to sending HTML, although the end user doesn't even know that it is being sent with HTML, and often has *no* HTML code in it (besides the junk overhead, such as a break on the end of each line, that isn't needed for text). So a bunch of CPU time (for virus scanning, which has to be done on HTML, but not text) and bandwith (typically at least 2-3 times as much) is just wasted... which increases the costs for everyone involved.
