Mike,

Does not happen when I telnet to your server! Is there a proxy or firewall
between your testing computer and IMail machine? Here is the telnet session:
220 X1 NT-ESMTP Server imail.ipc.ac.nz (IMail 6.06 7193-1)
ehlo test
250-imail.ipc.ac.nz says hello
250-SIZE 0
250-8BITMIME
250-DSN
250-ETRN
250-AUTH LOGIN CRAM-MD5
250-AUTH=LOGIN
250 EXPN
rset
250 ok its reset
helo test
250 hello imail.ipc.ac.nz
reset
502 unimplemented command
rset
250 ok its reset
ehlo
250-imail.ipc.ac.nz says hello
250-SIZE 0
250-8BITMIME
250-DSN
250-ETRN
250-AUTH LOGIN CRAM-MD5
250-AUTH=LOGIN
250 EXPN

Only because I have seen this once or twice before, will I offer this
possibility: Some other (non visible!) character is being sent to/from
IMail, so it (or the remote) is responding with the '502' line. Could be a
network, NIC or other communications problem. Try hitting 'Enter' key,
before you begin the 'EHLO' line and I suspect you will get the same
response sequence, but now on an apparently 'empty' first command. You might
also try telnet to some other server, to see if you see the same error
response sequence. If you do, maybe it is the machine you are using for the
telnet session?

Subject: [IMail Forum] Duplicate HELO/EHLO follow up

I have been watching the logs closely and have actually noticed that we are
getting this a lot, (this is just one more entry in the log) however most
servers just seem to ignore it. Unfortunately the important ones don¹t :)

So co-nawa.com just accepts it and gets on with the job.....

This is a response from my server when I telnet to it.

220 X1 NT-ESMTP Server imail.ipc.ac.nz (IMail 6.06 7107-3)
EHLO
502 unimplemented command
EHLO
250-imail.ipc.ac.nz says hello
250-SIZE 0
250-8BITMIME
250-DSN
250-ETRN
250-AUTH LOGIN CRAM-MD5
250-AUTH=LOGIN
250 EXPN

So the first time I send EHLO it says 502 but the second time it accepts it
....

Same thing happens if I open a connection and type HELO

220 X1 NT-ESMTP Server imail.ipc.ac.nz (IMail 6.06 7122-3)
HELO
502 unimplemented command
HELO
250 hello imail.ipc.ac.nz

Seems to be this side that the problem is how do I fix it???
