>absense of 'aa' flag doesn't mean much to me i'm afraid.

it means that NS is not happy with the zone's resource records,
usually some syntax error in the zone file. but I don't think it's
your pb. but you ought to fix it

>My DNS knowledge is knowing how to add entries to my named.boot file
>and create new zone files for new domains. I don't profess to
>understand all the intricacies.

the basics are basic, not intricate.

>terrance.jmsweb.com is my secondary nameserver

you just can't make them up as you go along, man. If you want it to
be an real NS for your zone, you should 1) register terrance with
your registrar as HOST with a fixed ip addy. and 2) then modify your
domain's registration to list terrance in the "delegation data" aka
official, authoritative NS for the domain, where authorititative zone
data can be obtained.

>I have been told that both primary and secondary should be listed in
>each zone file.
>ns.londonweb.net is my old secondary name server.

necessary but not sufficient, see here:

http://bind8nt.meiway.com/publicDNS.cfm

>It is probably still listed in the nominet records, but I have
>removed it from my zone file.
>Not that the secondary has any use unless my primary goes down does it.

bzzzt, wrong. to the outside world, both are authoritative, and if
you have N DNS's then each will receive 1/Nth of the total
queries. It's not failover as with MX records.

All NS's share equally the total query burden. Since terrance is
mute, anybody querying it will have to time out before trying your
other NS's, slowing down the visitors.

>I don't really get quite why the nominet/internic database has to
>have the nameservers listed and so does my zone files.

see above URL

>I have done a registry check on my server, that domain is no longer
>in there. No entries in my hosts file either, I have never changed
>my hosts file, I only use this on development servers to setup local hosts.
