But if Imail adds it's own header, couldn't it add a header that Outlook
Express claims is 'out-of-standard'?
I have a client who sends messages to us via his Exchange Server. Those
messages are almost always "invisible", meaning that Outlook Express won't
download them via IMAP4, presumably because of "malformed headers." Yet this
client sends out mail to other people all the time without a problem, and
some of those people must also use Outlook Express for clients. So I'm
looking for what's different about us-- and we use IMail for our mail server.

There's a chance, but it is very unlikely. IMail should not modify any of
the existing headers. All it should do is add one "Received:" header at the
beginning of the headers, and add its own headers at the end (such as
X-UIDL). I've never seen it alter any existing headers (although it might do
something like truncate a header that was too long, or strip a null character
out of a string, or something else that is pretty normal.
