I've focused on Outlook Express because that's what I mostly work with; however, it 
doesn't surprise me that Outlook should have the
same problem.  I'm sure most of the core code is the same in both versions.

I am surprised that you said you had the problem with POP3 accounts.  I have been 
testing various configurations and did not
experience the problem with POP3.  I wonder if the reason you don't see invisible 
messages (no pun intended) anymore is because
you're using POP3.  Or perhaps this was a bug that originally affected both POP3 and 
IMAP, and then was later fixed, but for POP3
only.

I also wonder how you know that you aren't suffering from invisible messages any more. 
 The whole problem is that there are no error
messages or warning signs.  Mail just doesn't arrive.  If you have anyone using IMAP, 
I suggest you look at their mailbox, because
you may be in for a surprise.
