Simple question, but not a simple answer!!!!
Before you enter only the 'domain.name', during the install, you should know
that doing this requires other work, for IMail to work correctly! If that is
not done, then you _will_ encounter problems. Basically, one needs to modify
the HOSTS file on this computer (see KB for more info). Too many people do
this without asking or investigation and are happy for a while, then start
seeing the 'problems' they created and some even think they have done it all
correctly and won't 'listen' when I tell them (and tell them, and tell
them...) that they have a 'configuration' problem.
My recommendation: Install IMail using the FQDN, get it working, then change
the 'Official Host Name' (OHN) and change the HOSTS file and retest, just to
be sure it is doing as you wish.
BTW, why are you creating the subdomains? Are you really sure you want/need
to do that? Doing that will create separate domains and sets of users,
unique (as long as you use different 'Top Directories' for each) to each
domain. Just asking, because you can have IMail accept email with multiple
domain names for each domain by using the Alias field. Not that what you
suggest is 'wrong', only that I don't think you may fully understand (yet!)
all the ramifications of your suggestion.
