Daniel:
Thanks for the response. The client is using a dual-channel ISDN connection
(dialup). It is not a new connection but the problem just started.
When you say that it may be a MTU problem, what do you mean? Should we look
at the MTU setting on the individual machines? I will check the spool
directory.

Subject: Re: [IMail Forum] Strange SMTP problem.
: Chuck,
:
: First look makes me think there is a network problem with that customer.
: Since the log shows good, up to the RCPT To: line, then the rest of the
: transaction between IMail and the client is missing, seems to indicate the
: client end disconnected or transmission of data has gotten messed up. That
: is works sometimes, also is not inconsistent with network problems. And if
: it is a MTU problem (as I suspect), the larger the amount of data, the
more
: likely the problem will occur (and the more likely small messages will be
: successful). Is this a new connection for the customer? Is it a dialup or
: cable modem connection? Those are the most likely to have problems (in my
: experience).
:
: Do you see any TO*.* files in the \spool dir, when this is happening? That
: would indicate that IMail has accepted a connection and is waiting for the
: SMTP transaction to complete. That file would eventually become the Q and
D
: files needed for IMail to process the message. Normally, T files exist for
: only very short times or if you restarted the system during a SMTP
: transaction.
