Co-existance of relay for addresses and SMTP auth works fine.....that is
exactly how I have it set up.....In my case I provide high speed access to
many companies, but I don't deal with any dial-up.....so outside my
buildings they have to turn on SMTP Auth. I simply sent an email to
everyone stating that if sending mail from outside their networks then check
off the box that says their outgoing server requires authentication. I have
found one problem however.....It is not an IMail issue but some ISP's son't
allow mail to be sent through servers other than their own.....for those
users who encounter that issue I tell them just to use the web mail or get
that ISP's outgoing mail settings.

Ok, my company owns a /21 block of IP addys, lets say xxx.xxx.120-127.xxx.
I'd like all of these computers to be able to send e-mail off of my Imail
computer, and I assume the best way to do that is with relay for addresses.
I also would like anyone else that has a pop3 account with me to be able to
send mail off of my server (one COMPLETE set of instructions, where I can
tell my users to enter X (and Y) into the fields, rather than telling them
to contact their ISP...) and I assume I do that with SMTP Auth.
If I turn SMTP Auth on, will that make it difficult for people to be allowed
to send mail using relay for addresses? can they both co-exist in a nice
friendly fashion? I'm getting lots of pressure to turn smtp auth on, but I
don't want to turn it on if it breaks my other working connections...

thanks again!

Matt

relay for addresses

good idea. they should relay out through their access provider

no effect really, they just wont be able to send any mail. :))

yes, go here: http://www.mailops.com, Robert Fehns most excellent site,
and click Help:SMTP AUTH for the gory details.

Dealing with people, expect the worst, hope for the best ?
