Yes, it's very normal if you have a very high volume, or have a spammer is 
sending lots of E-mail, or have a mail loop.

Just check the logs, or check the files in the spool to see what is going on.

No, it's not; one corrupt file won't multiply.

But, that's a very, very bad idea.  By deleting all the old logs files, you 
now have no reference to use to see if anything is different now than it 
was before, for example.
