This is just as true for POP3 accounts as well (observed on OE 5.5).

Yeah...maybe  if you have a dedicated T1 into your hotel room! I can't
fathom  telling  users  to use IMAP over dial-ups--the sync process is
excruciatingly   slow  at  best,  times  out  at  worst.  Where's  the
superiority in that :) ?

There  is  a shareware tool, AutoSMTP at www.bpardo.com, which enables
your   machine  to  automatically  switch  its  outgoing  SMTP  server
depending on what DUN connection is up. Solves a lot of these problems
and is highly recommmended. But even without it, all you have to do to
get the account drop-down is define a new accounts with alternate SMTP
host  and  credentials. Remember to tell OE not to check mail for this
account, since you're just using it to send.
