Yes, I have been able to set up VPN connections using MS PPTP on several
of the laptops.  While this solution does work, its not as stable as I'd
like it to be.

I do have some of them use the webmessaging on 8383, however they whine
because they don't like the interface. ( I usually ignore them though)

I don't know anything about the SSL web messaging. Is this different? If
you'd like to email me directly, please feel free.

Have you thought about using VPN? The Firebox can use MS PPTP or you can
purchase a license for Watchguard's MUVPN 5.0. Then, they can use any
e-mail client to send and receive company e-mail or secure web messaging
via the VPN. Another option is having users authenticate to the firebox
and use IMail SSL Web Messaging.
