You ave to decide where the point of diminishing/negative returns is. RBL domains and DNS validations and SMTP protocol restrictions (no pipelining, MUST say helo/ehlo with valid hostname, etc) probably kill 90+% of abuse without any manual intervention. One just has to get some perspective and accept you just can't stop all of it, some will get through. If IMGate and/or Declude is rejecting 2000 msgs a day, I'm not going to spend my time chasing down the 100 that get through, in one-sies and two-sies.
