Hi Guys,
Since this list seems to be full
of great DNS support people, I'm hoping I can get some help. We were
having problems with mail and other things (web, ftp, surfing in general) and
since it all pointed to DNS I followed Len's website and upgraded my backup DNS
server (running on NT4). This helped out a lot (dnsstuff.com score went from F
to B). Well I figured that went so well I should upgrade the primary server
(previously we were running metasolutions dns 1.2 that did early Bind 4). Well
first the Master would crash on zone transfers with the log
showing:
date time: accept: Errcode: 9: bad header file (or
something like that.)
After searching around (including the bind mail
archive) all I found were cracks at MS and thier buggy NT server. So I
installed the bug fix listed on Len's site (the sept 16 2000 patch from nortel
which i supose is a downgrade), which fixed that problem. Now named.exe crashes,
about 8 hours after the service was started Dr. Watson notified me that
named.exe had an access violation. The slave has had zero problems since
installing it more than a week ago.
I'm running NT4 with all the latest updates and I
have Bind 8.3.1 (plus the sept 16 2000 patch from nortel) downloaded from
ics.org. Any suggestings on making this work would be appreciated. Or even
suggestions to a good solid DNS server program (I was looking at simple DNS
today)
TIA,
Jacob
