Ken,

I do have "disable list command" checked on my two most troublesome lists.
Given the nature of the group, I thought that best. Plus, I think it's
probably best for all lists. That way, SPAMers, or others we might not like
to learn of those addresses, don't have such open access. However, I only
recently checked that option. I was having trouble with the lists even
before that.

Here is an interesting one... What about the ability for anyone to see
1. what lists are on your domain, and 2. what users are on the domain?

Following the instructions in the manual, type an e-mail to
[EMAIL PROTECTED], no subject, and the only thing in the body is
"list" (with the quotes). You get a nice list of all their lists!

Now, pick a list (I picked "jokes"). Type an e-mail to
[EMAIL PROTECTED], no subject, and the body would be "list jokes"
(don't add quotes!)... This one returns:
"List Command for list jokes was rejected!
The list command is currently disabled on this list!"

However, go to a different domain, do the same, and I bet you'll get
their lists... If any aren't "locked down", you can see who is on their
list.

I found that you won't get the list of names if 1. the list is moderated
or for subscribers only, or 2. "the list command is disabled" - both are
setting in your list admin page.

Just an FYI... I obviously didn't read the manual enough on this when I
set my list up...

I would love to have a list server discussion. I have problems with
them, too. Particularly with moderated lists. As a matter of fact, it
was lists that made me join this list.

I do have lists running on domains that don't have their own IP's. I,
too, would like to know if that is part of my problem. I posted my
questions a week or so ago and go no responses.

My biggest problem has this scenario:
(I typed it using generalizations the first time--made it hard to
understand so here's the real deal)
domain: jrpc.org using virtual ip
4 lists:
members
current
lgbt-coalition
coalition-announcements

members and current have, as their owner and their administrator, peace
which is a user on the server under that domain.

lgbt-coalition and coalition-announcements have, as their owner, a user
who does not have an account on the domain or the server at all and
have, as their administrator, the same peace account which the above two
lists have.

Members and current seem to be working, though I'm not sure and don't
want to rock the boat by asking right now.

lgbt-coalition and coalition-announcements have the same problem: when
a list member sends a message to the list, the list owner receives
it--as she should. The list owner should then, I understand (?),
forward the message to the list for distribution.

I do have another moderated list on a domain with a virtual ip. I know
I had problems getting it to function correctly. I also had problems
getting members and current to function correctly. I don't know if I
misunderstand how a moderated list is supposed to work, if I'm doing
something wrong or if there is a bug.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Katie

Subject: [IMail Forum] List Server Question

Hello Fellow Imailers!

I'm attempting to set up a list without success. I have one domain
working with no problem, but that one has its own IP.

Do all domains serving a list need to have their own IP?

Thanks in advance.

George
