Don't know how is the Imail Anti-Virus, if it's some sort of similar to Declude, (opening a dos session to run the program), may have similar problems.

We've seen this problems too with Declude.

The worse thing is that the worse moment in the day is when you're not in the office, and "SPAMMING OCCURS".

This can hang the machine (too much processes-not enough ram-....)

Adding RAM doesn't aid to the problem as this ram is "DOS-session" RAM, the windows 2K has a feature/bug that limit the RAM to all the DOS programs that run on the machine, and all the proceses that can be run.

The problem with Declude were, a SMTP process launch Declude, that launch virus scanning engine. If all were OK, the scanning engine will end it's scan, the declude will decide if it's got virus or not, and the smtp process will be able to get another mail and restart all this issue.
If for some problem, the DOS program hang, or waits for some user prompt, the SMTP process keeps waiting for the antiviral to end. This is a no-end till there's no more processes to be run (there's a limit). The solution that has Microsoft to this problem is not permeat to execute any program that could be able to get user-interact. The main problem is that the main system can create this user-interact with the memory limit problems.

If all of this is applyable to you, and the Ipswitch anti-viral:

   - Modify HKLM/System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Subsystems\Windows
Add more processes (At the last, default 16, maybe 32), add more RAM to DOS process on the background (default: SharedSection=1024,2072), f.e.: SharedSection=1024,3072,2048 could be OK, (The default gives 512)
   - Do not add more SMTP process, as this would increase this potential bug

If all the problem is a memory leak in Imail Scanning, forget all this little message.

   Hope this helps

Subject: [IMail Forum] IMail Stops Processing Mail w/out Warning

Hello!  I'm hoping that some of you may have experienced the following scenario with IMail Anti-Virus.  We're currently running IMail v.706 on one server and IMail Anti-Virus on a separate front end server (scans the first server).   After installing and configuring the anti-virus server all ran well until about three days later when we started receiving messages from our customers that they were receiving their messages 3-4 hours later.  Checked both servers for event error messages and there were none - in addition, the symscan service was up and running.  It basically appeared that some messages were passing through the front-end anti-virus server without issue, while others just backed up.  Server Stats - W2K, 512mb RAM, dual processors, etc.  IPSwitch support has come up with no ideas and it's been two weeks - my main concern is that this will happen again during non-business hours - and without any type of alert - the software is basically useless to us right now.  Is there something else that I can do?  Has anyone experienced this issue?  I basically have the anti-virus server running during business hours only right now...planning to up the memory - and ideas?  HELP!!!
