That's like asking "How long should we keep tape backups?". It all depends
on your own unique situation. The stray D*.SMD files (ones that have no
matching Q*.SMD file) are probably long forgotten E-mails (usually, neither
the sender's E-mail address nor the recipient's were valid), so they likely
aren't too important. Depending on the nature of your business, you
might want to hold on to them for a few weeks/months, "just in case".
