This "do it all in C:" is bad advice for a new system, from a scaleability 
/ maintainability (defrag + backup) view, because one really wants to run 
separate partitions (better, separate controllers + drives) and 
__dedicated__ partitions:

* system + proggies (but absolute minimum of proggies)
* swap (single, system-wide)
* imail spool/ dir
* mailbox/ dir
* more mailbox/

I've heard some guy say, with NTFS5, he thinks putting 40 gb in one 
partition is just fine.  I say he's bending over and holding his ankles.
