If  it's  not  a  mailbox  server, use MS SMTP instead. It's much more
suited to this task.

If  IMail uses a smart host, it doesn't do any lookups at all, so it's
inherently  faster. Putting a forward-only DNS on the smart host could
be  more  efficient than direct queries to a ISP DNS, since you'd have
better  caching.  Putting full recursive DNS on a third server on your
LAN would be most efficient.
