OK, I posted a message Saturday asking for advice in setting up a new
IMail server. I didn't get a single response (much to my dismay).

Here is the setup, I know it's not much of a box but I've only got
about 500 users. We don't offer any dialup service and I steer most
folks toward using their ISP's SMTP server. Many block port 25 now
anyway. I've got maybe a dozen with static IPs that I allow relaying
for. Most also simply have their mail forwarded so they don't even
use the POP3 service. I can't picture having more than a couple
thousand users any time in the foreseeable future.

Intel ATA66 motherboard
III 550 Mz, 256K cache processor
ATA 80 GB harddrive
512 MB RAM

I just ordered the 3COM 3C980C-TXM nic since the box has a NetGear in
it and I haven't read good things about it.

I formatted the drive with a 12 GB system partition, 4 GB partition
for the apps, 4 GB partition for the spool and the rest for the
mailboxes.

I'll be migrating users over from my web server/mail server. Right
now I'm using an Access database. I'll either be switching over to
the IMail database or SQL Server 2000, which I have available.

So, here are my questions:

Pros/cons in using the IMail database vs SQL Server?

I'm running IMail 6.05 now. I have a copy of 7.1 sitting here. I'd
like to go with 7.1 while I'm migrating. Is it ready for prime time?

If yes to above, should I install 6.05, migrate the users over, then
upgrade? Uninstall 7.1 on the new box and upgrade the existing box to
7.1 and SQL Server (if I go with SQL Server) then move it over? It
looks like migrating the users over to the same version then
upgrading will be pretty straight forward. Or would it be best to do
a clean install of 7.1? If a clean install would be best, anyone have
suggestions or a link to the best migration path?
