Rich, I have the same problem here. At home I us a satellite link, 2way via direct pc, and I can not maintain a connection either. (well come to think of it.. sat com is a coin toss anyway) When I go dialup.. at least I can connect (sometimes) and get the whole page to come up. Usually It takes about 4 tries on a 44k dial up.
We also use the KillerWeb templates and I've heard rumor that it's the main cause of the problems. I don't use AOL for anything - and never will. (another topic) I realize this isn't an answer for you but you might try the list over at the killerweb place. I think its humankind.com or something like that. There's a guy called Ron H. ? that's a guru on it.
