I thought of that, too. One of the program constraints is that you
have to have a place for the alternate email address and it would
be possible to store that with the program alias as a parameter.
So that was another benefit.
More significantly though (as I understood the requirement) is
that the user does not want to have a one-to-one notice for each
mail but only some sort of infrequent but periodic notification.
So then if you did it with an alias you'd have to have some
mechanism to prevent one-to-one notices and I didn't see
particularly happy way to do that.
I took 5 or 10 minutes and wrote a small perl program that worked
pretty much as I described and sent it to him after I tested on my
domains. Only real difference was I just put the password in an
array inside the program rather than worrying with looking it up.
And of course that way you can run it from any location.
Kind of interesting little problem though.
