If you are not doing an "all-at-once" migration, you can forward the mail from IMail to the exchange on any existing users and create any new accounts in exchange only. Eventually the IMail server won't be doing anything and you don't run the risks associated with importing external db's. Also, if you have a small IT dept. (or IT of one :-p ) you can do the conversion at your own pace instead of all at once. I'm currently doing this and will be leaving the students for next year and keeping IMail only for listservs.

Exchange 5.5 supports directory import from a CSV file. Exchange 2000/Active Directory supports import from an LDF file or from CSV file. The trick would be to get your directory from Imail formatted correctly into a CSV file. As for migrating data, Outlook Express is your friend. Run Outlook Express and Outlook/Exchange simultaneously and use Export command in Outlook Express. All your data will be pumped into the mailbox that Outlook is holding open.
