As an afterthought, it seems to boil down to having two separate submailboxes in Web Messaging: "Draft" (native to WM) and "Drafts" (imported from IMAP). IMail works properly when picking up messages in its "Draft" folder and puts you in "compose" mode. However, anything that sits in the [imported] "Drafts" IMAP folder is considered as received mail, which it *is*. This makes sense to me, although it may not seem like the behavior that you were expecting.
