That is very, very important information.  :)

If that is the case, then you *can* tell IMail to use your local DNS 
server.  However:

The problem before was that you were entering an IP address that the 
mailserver does not know about, which causes network traffic, which is not 
necessary for TCP/IP (technically, UDP/IP) connections to the local 
server.  If you enter "127.0.0.1", it should work fine, if you have a DNS 
server on the same machine as IMail, and that it supports recursive queries 
(IE it lets you look up any DNS information, not just DNS information on 
domains it is authoritative for).
