Sandy,
I set up an outbound rule test on a domain bound to an IP to send and
copy if from a particular sender. I ran several tests and the results
follow:
1) Messages sent to an address off server - rule was invoked and
executed
2) Messages sent to an address in same domain - rule not invoked
3) Messages sent to an address in a different domain but on same
server and domain bound to an IP - rule not invoked
4) Messages sent to an address in a different domain but on same
server and domain not bound to an IP - rule not invoked
In short these results are the same as testing outbound rules from an
IP-less domain.
Surprisingly I did not find clear information about outbound rules in the IMAIL
manual although certainly I may have overlooked it. But I did think
to check the WEB help and found an explicit statement copied below:
From "Adding an Outbound Rule For a Host" - WEB Help
"Outbound processing rules filter messages that are being
sent out through IMail Server to non-local addresses "
So I think the tests are returning results as expected according to
this.
I think if the requirement is to copy ALL messages (both local and
remote) from a given user then an outbound rule alone is simply not
effective. One seems to be left with the copy all method and
subsequent filtering to accomplish the task of copying all messages
for a given user.
Personally I have needed to copy all messages from a given user. Since
outbound rules enable this so effectively as well as provide other
useful capabilities I think it would be very good if outbound rules
could somehow be applied to local deliveries as well as remote.
