Have  you  compared  logs?  That's where you have to go first. Posting
yours  here  will  help, but if you have an amicable relationship with
their  side,  they  should  also  be  able  to shed some light on what
happened  during the connection, if indeed there ever was one. Without
logs, it's only a guessing game.

Following Keith's suggestion of a Telnet session will also give you an
IMail's-eye view.
