We use a Microsoft SMTP server as a backup mail server / relay server. We setup secondary MXs to this box to receive inbound mail and deliver it on to the iMail box. We also use it as an outbound relay machine. iMail delivers all outbound mail to this SMTP relay box for delivery. The outbound relay seems to free up significant resources on the iMail box.
