During a penetration test, the type and version of our email server was detected.
That is quite normal.
Is there any way to disable the banner information that the Imail server gives out? If this question has been asked before, i apologize for the redundancy.
There is a registry hack that can be used (I believe it is also on the "Advanced" tab of the SMTP functionality in IMail Administrator on 7.10 and higher) that lets you change it, if you like. However, that information will still be available in Received: headers.
Note that what you are referring to is called "security through obscurity" (making it harder for someone to find information that they could either find out through other means, or don't actually need to attack your server).
