This is the problem I've had all along...I don't have a Mail icon in the Control Panel on my Win2K boxes and therefore can't create a MAPI profile. Is there a Win2K component needed that I'm not installing to make this icon appear or does one have to install Outlook?

Ok so assuming we do this and the system sends the sql mail with the MAPI calls that Imail can't understand, ru saying we *do* have to install Outlook ? I'm just not sure what u mean when u say 'the MAPI client'.

All MS windows MAPI compliant applications that send email are designed to use the underlying 'MS exchange' MAPI dlls. This doesn't requrie an exchange server, it just requires those DLLs and supporting exchange 'profiles'. The MAPI functionality used to be provided by the older MS Exchange Client (so other applications could use email - interfacing with MAPI instead of writing a whole messaging layer). The actual mail client has been replaced by MS Outlook, although the MAPI DLLs are still based on the older MS Exchange client and are installed by default on all Windows workstations / servers.
Sandy is saying that all you have to do is configure a MAPI profile using the "Mail" control panel in Win2k. This configures the unerlying MAPI subsystem. MS SQL then sends mail using the system MAPI calls. In this configuration, you could configure the MAPI client to communucate with your IMail server.
