Ok, so the MAPI portion is just the underlying mail subsystem provided on Microsoft platforms. The MAPI layer is installed when you install MS Outlook (individually or as part of MS Office). I'm not certain MS Outlook Express will install those MAPI components because it's more geared to be used as a light client like Eudora. MS Outlook includes the whole MAPI messaging layer.
Once installed, configure the MAPI profiles by going to the Mail control panel in win2k (start > settings > control panel > Mail). To add a new profile: click "Add", select "Manually configure information services" & next, give the profile a name (which SQL will refer to - call it something like "SQL-Profile"), add the "Internet E-Mail" service, and configure it to access your IMail server.
