Hi, Thanks. Based on this I just figured out how I want to handle my ISP change in august (from mci/worldcom/uunet to virtu).
I now have (tio.nl) MX 100 fallback.nl.uu.net MX 10 mailie.tio.nl I'll frst change the dns server to my new ISP and then change the MX records to: MX 100 fallback.nl.uu.net MX 50 fallback.virtu.nl (or whatever it is called) MX 10 mailie.tio.nl When I switch ISP and the ip number of my mailserver changes the nearest fallback server will know the new IP number as soon as it exists and will deliver my mail. :-) Met vriendelijke groet, Bonno Bloksma ----- Original Message ----- From: "John Tolmachoff (Lists)" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Wednesday, June 18, 2003 7:25 AM Subject: RE: [IMail Forum] Move server temporarily > In addition to the change in TTL for DNS, I would recommend also adding MX > records for the other IP instead of changing the IP from one to the other. > This allows server-to-server traffic the ability to use the 2nd MX IP for the > temporary duration. Good idea about creating a new A record for the temp IP instead of changing the main one. (You do not configure a MX record with an IP address, rather a FQDN that has an A record.)
