I have an Imail 6.x server which was installed with a primary domain, a.com (easier to type than the real one). There are also other domains this server hosts mail for. I need to move email services for a.com to another server but I need to keep this server hosting the additional domains.
I used the instructions at http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/IM-19991007-DM01.htm to change the domain a.com to a.net I restarted the SMTP service and all was well until I tried to send mail from webmail to a user in a.com. It bounced so I looked in the admin. util and a.com had been put back in when I opened it. I deleted the host for a.com and the mail didn't bounce.
So far, so good. The problem is when I have an alias at a.net (or account with forward) send it's mail to a.com The mail bounces with 550 not a gateway. This happens if I send mail from the outside to [EMAIL PROTECTED] which forwards to [EMAIL PROTECTED] If I send mail from webmail from [EMAIL PROTECTED] to [EMAIL PROTECTED], the alias or forward will send the mail out using the MX for a.com
If I close the admin util and open it back up, it adds a.com back in which causes the original bouncing problem. If I delete it, I get the problem above.
In the localhost setup, the Host Name shows as a.com and the Default Host is mail.a.com Does the host name need to be changed to a.net and the default host to mai.a.net? Also, does the domain name in the networking setup (this is on NT) need to be changed to be a.net?
Thanks.
