Thanks Len,  We are trying to grow as slowly as possible so that our clients can afford our system and servers etc. are definitely a big cost.  I think we are using 7.x and just purchased 8.  I think moving the list serves and blasts may be a good idea.

ah, then maybe those 500k are really legit?, and you're just suffering from
Imail 6's sucky queue management which sucks fatally worse when the spool/
directory hits a few 10's of 1000s of msg files and when compounded by any
filesystems inability to process 500k items in one file node efficiently.

And maybe what your blast volumes need is a real list server (separate box
from your mailbox sever) rather than Imail's list server, esp since large
lists need automated bounce management and can seriously impede the server
while a big shot goes out, aggravating your mailbox users.
