Hello All: first of all thanks for your input. Let me clarify few things and what I am trying to do. 1) SMTP *DO* log rdeliver and ldeliver with SIZE and YES I can account for SMTP usage using Imail Log analyzer or by writing my own app. 2) We *ALSO* want to account the POP3 Download usage which is NOT GETTING LOGGED, how much Client downloaded. ** Mention of web-mail was just to inform that it could affect the counting of READ MAIL if we just rely on SMTP log entries.
Why I need to Report POP3 usage?? As I explained 90% of my 800+ users use POP3 ONLY and we do more than 600+ GB of email usage a month and we DO WANT TO know which client using more than Monthly limit provided under each shared hosting plan. ** Its very imp for hosting companies to Account for any DATA TRANSFER IN+OUT so we can bill effectively Ans: I talked to the senior tech ERIC at IPSWITCH and he also confirmed they DO NOT LOG POP3 Download usage as they do for SMTP so he told me to formally submit a feature request. Another Feature request iam going o submit is SMTP REMOTE DELIVERY LIMIT per USER and SMTP REMOTE DELIVERY LIMIT per DOMAIN What above protect people like us who do shared hosting is Imail allow 3 CHR pass or client keeps simple passwords and many time they been cracked and before I wake up next morning someone (SPAMMER) already sent out some few thousand mails as Imail not putting any Limit. To safeguard against this We like to give 200 - 300 messages a day sent remotely limit, when is a VALID user reached that we can increase it. My STATS from last 3 years says a good average user will send much less than 200-300 messages to outside domains in 1 day. If anyone else has any ISP/Shared Hosting Company level feature request i can add that too. I would love to see a Live Monitor of IN/OUT bound connections in imail admin (Merak Mail server has it..looks good + informative ) Thanks Raj -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Sanford Whiteman Sent: Monday, July 21, 2003 10:24 AM To: Len Conrad Subject: Re[3]: [IMail Forum] How to Account for POP3 Download DataTransfer imail 8.0 > Webmail now writes directly to the local mailboxes without passing > through the queue? No--he doesn't want to charge for stuff that never gets POPped.
