Jason, I appreciate your point but let's face it, budgets are tight. I wish I could purchase new machines every year. While a new box could be had for around $2K in today's market that doesn't include the cost of the MS tax for servers OS, the time to bring it online, etc.
The fact is that I have plenty of bandwidth to deliver and send our mail and service our VPN (3Mb down 1/5Mb Up). We average at PEAK 1000 messages a day delivered and sent in total between all domains. I monitor our CPU and memory usage on this box religiously and I spike at 100% about three times an hour for about 500ms at each spike with the average load at about 85% in the morning when everyone checks their mail and 5% when idling. My memory has about 256MB of overhead available (I average 260MB of 560MB in use) and I have almost never seen disk paging on this box. I haven't experienced any major memory leaks either. I usually reset this box every month just to be on the safe side. So while my Dell box isn't the latest Ferrari, is a tried and true ole' pickup truck that has been performing like a champ for 3 years, and with no major changes in user additions, mail traffic or new software on this server, I don't see why it is unreasonable to ask Ipswitch to diagnose a problem that I have confirm is being experienced by others. If my frustrations came out in my reaction to Ipswitch's response to my call for support, I apologize. We decided to pay our extortion fee for upgrades I only hope that this will help resolve the problem, albeit without diagnosing what was causing the problem in the first place. Scott R. He is running his "critical" e-mail server on a machine that 95% of people haven't used on the desktop in years (Let alone for a server). While I agree that there may be a problem with attachments in webmail, this attitude doesn't solve anything. People have to give him options to identify the problem, and 1 option that was given was that his hardware is seriously out of date for a production I-mail server. Plus, regardless of how few users he has claimed to have, that doesn't mean squat if they are all receiving 1,000 messages per day. That's a bunch of sh*t. If Ipswitch had mentioned I needed God to process e-mail, Moses and Einstein to diagnose Imail software problems, and server pixie dust at the ready in case my Nuclear Powered Processors went down, I probably would have gone another route. Come on IPSWITCH, get your act together.
