Well I had Norton Corp AV running before I switched my server around and it
would routinely tell me that a particular file was quarantined, but never
had it lose all the mail in a whole folder.

IF I ever had someone question an e-mail missing, I as a matter of routine
tell them that anything that comes in with a virus attached gets deleted.
I have never had any complaints about that.

But if there are issues with it deleting ALL the mail in a folder then that
is a problem. Why would it delete everything in a folder instead of just the
infected file ?

Corp?

>Just curious, what are the consequences of running Standard AV program ?

One is that it can delete entire mailboxes of mail, if you have it scan the
user mailboxes.

Another is that it can result in E-mail that mysteriously disappears --
there is often no record of the E-mails that it deletes.

Also, it may provide a false sense of security -- you never know what it
will catch and what it will not catch.

If you want to know more consequences, just call up the vendor of your AV
program and ask them. I'm sure their salespeople will be able to come up
with even more reasons (as they'll typically make a commission on a $5,000
or $10,000 product if they can convince you to switch from the $50 product).
