Please excuse what may seem a basic question but I am having plenty of problems setting up IMAP4 to work in IMail Express V8.04.
I have got SMTP working fine. The problem is setting up IMAP4.
I am still trying to understand how this works with my dialup ISP.
Currently I am using MS Outlook 2002 to access POP3 email on my ISP's POP3 server 'pop3.myisp.co.uk'. All works fine.
I now want to use IMAP on my local network, which I believe I can only get to work by downloading the email from my ISP's POP3 server.
I have confirmed that IMAP4 is running on IMail Express. I have set up a user 'Fred Bloggs' in IMail with First name 'Fred', Password as '9999' and Reply Address '[EMAIL PROTECTED]'.
On Outlook 2002 I have set up an email account 'Fred'. This has outgoing mail server (SMTP) as 'localhost', incoming server (IMAP) as 'pop3.myisp.co.uk'. Reply address as '[EMAIL PROTECTED]'. Logon username as 'tim.bloggs' and password '1234' (this is to allow login to tim.bloggs into the ISP).
The problem I have is when I try to download email using Outlook 2002, I get a dialogue (titled 'Internet E-mail - fred') which prompts me for the username and password for pop3.myisp.co.uk, which are already filled in ('tim.bloggs' and the password). I try re-entering the password but still get the same dialogue back.
Could someone please help. I believe that I am missing something very fundamental here or misunderstanding some concept in the operation/use of IMAP.
Many thanks
