Why not use imap rather than pop3 then all the mail is kept on the server. An IMAP conversation with be more expensive in terms of server load but will keep all their emails centralised.

We just converted from Exchange to Imail due to client license costs of upgrading an older version of Exchange to the latest and greatest Exchange (no more pop3 licenses). Imail is definately more cost effective in our case and offers everything our users thought they needed in exchange - web based email, calendering. During the conversion, I and my crew tried to have exchange and Imail running on the same box...let's say it was a big headache. imap and smtp on one, pop3 on the other, store and forward.
