We received an email in our spam traps this morning that I thought was kinda weird. The email was from a Yahoo! account holder asking to be removed from a mail list. The email that she replied to was obviously spam.
I know this might sound weird but the sender of the spam was listed as one of our employees who would never send spam.
That is extremely common (not the complaint, but the fact that it happened). About 99% of all spam is sent using an address the spammer does not have permission to use. Many times that will be yours.
My question is, if the Yahoo! user reported us as the spammers, would our domain be blacklisted or would the senders, based on IP address?
No. People in the anti-spam industry are well aware of that trick (called a "joe job").
