AOL play God? Surely you jest!

Oh, and by the way, good luck getting AOL lemmings to switch to a real ISP.
I've been fighting this battle for a LONG time with my customers.

Jeff,

Downstairs from my office is a computer shop, they do a great deal of business. The techs refuse to reinstall any AOL, MSN, Earthlink services due to the crap they put in the software. Since im just upstairs (and i give them free access to a ds3) i get several signups per month from people making the move to "real internet" services. one of the great sales points is accelerated access and nationwide coverage. When i can show customers ( using slipstream ) that they can surf faster and they can connect from mostly anywhere and if needed added content filtering so jr cant look at porn they have no hesitation to make the switch. My point is you can get them from the big boys easily, you just have to show them that you really are better.

Try reading the archives. This was brought up last week.

Tell your user to get a ISP that does not play God like AOL does.

I have a user who connects to the Internet through AOL and sends mail
through our server. Lately (past week or so) he's been having problems
sending (but not receiving e-mail). When ever he tries to send, Outlook
Express gives him the following error message:

The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was
rejected
by the server. The rejected e-mail was (hidden) Subject test account:
mail.kalnet.net server: mail.kalnet.net protocol SMPT server response 550
5.7.1 (hidded)... relaying denied IP Namelookup failed (172.154.2.78)
port: 25 Secure (ssl): no, server error 550, error no: 0x800ccc79.

He has SMTP authentication enabled and we've tried specifing the
username/password and using the same one as for his pop account. He
receives this error no matter who he sends to, me, himself or somebody
outside my server.

I have other users who connect through DSL, cable, other ISPs and they all
use SMPT authentication just fine.
