This lag appears only during Monday mornings / other high traffic times. At times
we've rebooted the machine and if still in heavy use it still has a lag. As for
today, the machine hasn't been reboot since Thursday (at least). Right now (not as
heavy) it's running between 30-90%.

I guess the other question is, do you see this lag and response time after a
fresh boot? If not, it might be worthwile to find out what is the cause of
the lag after running for a few days.

I turned off all my antispam features on Friday, and for the first Monday in
a month my mail server is chugging along and has not stopped up. I have
been noticing a bit of a lag when connecting to the outgoing mail.
I telnet'd directly and it took a good 90 seconds for a confirmation to
ehlo. I then terminal serviced and checked my cpu usage through windows
task manager and it's been up at 96-99% for the past hour or two.
This looks to me like we'll need faster cpus in this machine, or should we
consider a load balancing solution between two servers? Or should IMail be
able to handle this load with these processors?
Our current machine is:
win2k sp4|imail 8.0.5 hf2
COMPAQ PROLIANT w/ dual pIII 600s | 768 ram
Approx 250 virtual domains w/ avg 4 users per domain
For an average weekday it appears to locally deliver 25k messages, and
remotely deliver 17k messages. I'm not sure on my Monday statistics (as
I've just recently started taking these), but it's significantly higher.
Is there a tool that will count the users and domains for me? Also, I'd
like to look into seeing what sort of network traffic is occurring on the
server. Can anyone recommend a good utility for this? Will netmon take
care of me in this aspect?
