Using Imail's built in message rules, is there any way
to block .com attachments?

Yes and no. You can block quite a few .com files with few false positives if you search the archives (sorry, I don't do filters, so I don't know offhand how to do it). But filters will *always* catch occasionally legitimate E-mails and not catch some that it should.

However, I though that the Symantec mailserver virus scanner included the ability to block attachments by extension? If so, that's your best option -- there's no need to mess around with filters unless your mailserver AV software doesn't support blocking attachments by extension.
