Several people have pointed out that only a very small portion of spam uses a NULL sender.
Blocking the NULL sender [1] makes you non-RFC-compliant, [2] gets you listed at http://www.rfc-ignorant.org , [3] prevents you from getting bounce messages, and [4] prevents you from getting delivery status notifications. All of that, just to block a small amount of spam that could probably easily get caught through other means.
