OK, I can not figure out what is going on but I keep getting a "Could not open a connection to host on port 23 : connection failed" message. I can ping it fine. This is probably something very simple, but I am not able to figure it out. Anyone help? Grant, Use Telnet to connect to secondary and compose a message to a user (you) on the primary server. If accepted, great. Now use your e-mail client to check the user account. The message should show up no later than one queue interval after it was accepted (assuming all set correctly and primary is up, message probably will show up right away). Check the headers to see that it was routed via the secondary. You could down the SMTP on the primary (simulating a failure), then send an email to a user (secondary should be used to deliver this since the primary cannot be contacted). Once the primaries SMTP is back up (give it at least a few minutes down), the message should arrive (again, it may take one queue interval before it is delivered). You may have to use an outside account to send the email, using this method. Again, check headers to see how message was routed.
