1. What is the RFC violation that this test looks for? I'd like to talk to MS and hear their response.
It's a technical violation, which means that they can easily say "We don't care" (or, "You're reading the RFC wrong"). They already chose to violate one of the RFCs for Outlook 2003 (unless they can say with a straight face that their customers would prefer that their E-mail be marked as spam instead of having their machine name appear in the E-mail headers).
The point with this test is that it catches extremely few legitimate E-mails sent from mailservers, and about half of all spam. If you can whitelist your own users, it ends up being one of the best spam tests available today.
2. ... Do you have an opinion on 8.x and IMAP?
No, I haven't been following the IMAP issues closely.
3. You suggested not testing outgoing email. I thought the JMail only tested incoming messages. So I'm confused on how to not test outgoing messages and why that would solve the problem. Can you explain?
