On the list's "general" tab is a space for the list owner's email address. I entered [EMAIL PROTECTED]
That's the problem. You had no such address. IMail assumes that you have such an address (sending it to "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" or even "[EMAIL PROTECTED]"). It then sets things up behind the scenes to get the E-mail to you. But, one of the things it does is sets up an address that is used for bounce messages and the like. It doesn't use *your* address, as nobody wants everybody to see their own address, when a special list address can be used. So it uses "[EMAIL PROTECTED]".
But you say that your E-mail address is "[EMAIL PROTECTED]", which causes the loop, since that isn't your address. It's a reserved address.
IMail *should* error check the address you enter, but apparently does not. This is the first I've heard of the problem, though.
That email address did not pre-exist. Imail automatically created an alias of [EMAIL PROTECTED] that resolves to [EMAIL PROTECTED] which creates an alias loop when I try to send list commands to the list owner. Imail also created an alias called my-list that resolves to program imailsrv mydomain.com my-list.com.
Correct. That is the behavior by design.
How stupid...makes no sense at all!
It makes a lot of sense -- everything but the lack of error checking (and creating a special account to receive bounce messages from the list <G>).
Can someone to me what the my-list alias should resolve to and what the my-list-owner should resolve too?
You don't need to know. All you need to know is that you can't use an address "[EMAIL PROTECTED]". If you obey that rule, everything will work.
