The To: and X-RCPT-TO: fields contain exactly the same email addresses, yet for some reason neither GFI MailEssentials or PoPWeasel are able to read the To: field to extract the address for routing.
Since when are To:, cc:, or any headers used for delivery?
ONLY the envelope recipient in the SMTP command:
RCPT TO:<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
... is used for delivery.
Why is it that these programs cannot route messages from IMail based on the To: field - any ideas?
Simply because the To:, cc:, bcc: nor any other header is to be used for delivery. The To: field can contains multiple addresses, which one is the "right" one?
another example: in a msg your receive, the To: contains whatever but not your address, but you get msg anyway because your address was in the original sender's bcc list.
Finally, all headers, being contained in the DATA command, can be forged, so are not reliable for delivery.
