I've gone all the way back to "no relay" because I couldn't
match all of the IP's with customers and reasons why they couldn't
authenticate. We'll have higher call volume when people get 550's for the
next few days but we'll survive that better than being blacklisted and the high
traffic on the server.

Any help greatly appreciated! That's correct. Any IP address you have configured for
"relay" will not need to authenticate to send an email. By configuring the IP
you're stating that you totally trust that IP and all traffic from it.IMO, The
number if IP addresses should be kept to a minimum. All other users must supply
a userid & password in order to send email.

Any help greatly appreciated! I was of the (apparently mistaken) understanding that the
sending address had to be [EMAIL PROTECTED] hosted on our
server AND be on a trusted IP; OR be [EMAIL PROTECTED] hosted on our
server and use SMTP Authentication.
If relay for addresses allows anything from that IP to pass
I need to untrust all but a very few IP's, I guess.

Any help greatly appreciated! Um, what do you think “Relay for addresses” means? It means relay all for that address. This is where Declude Hijack would have helped big time.

I found the issue... The mail was originated on a trusted IP (one in the relay address list). We have a customer with a trojan or something. I've un-trusted that address.
However, I'm still confused. I thougt a valid address was still required.

LaSalle-Lowery Our Imail server is set to "relay for addresses." I discovered today it is relaying. Don't know how long that has been the case. The messages are stacking up by the hundreds in the queue and I'm at a loss...
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
