I had this issue a couple of years ago with UPS (I NOW NEVER USE UPS FOR ANY SHIPPING!!! ... It's FedEx for me :))
We got UPS to cover the damage, but you have to do a few things. 1. Did you have enough coverage (insurance) on the shipment? If No then you are going to have a harder time. 2. If yes, you need a copy of all shipping, packing and delivery invoices. 3. You need pics of the boxes and close ups of the damage parts. 4. You need pics of the damage servers. 5. A letter for DELL that they will not fix the servers. 6. An invoice/quote from DELL for all the parts to get the servers fixed. 7. The original invoice from DELL for the cost of the servers. 8. Then call UPS and get to the claims department, send them the above info and pics. 9. If they denied the claim, get their insurance company (UPS has to have insurance from another company ... they don't cover them self) and place a claim with them. I had to go all the way to step 9, and it took about 3 months. BUT I got UPS's insurance company to cover the claim and pay me for my time and trouble! I got a check for around $73,000 for two servers (by the way our servers looked like they got ran over by the truck)! ----start UPS Federal DOT info---- US DOT: 24796 Docket Number: MC116200 Legal Name: UNITED PARCEL SERVICE, INC. To make a long story short, I had to ship a pair of Dell PowerEdge 2650 servers from CA to NY. The guys at the UPS Store f'ed up the packaging, UPS dropped the boxes (and subsequently won't cover the claim, aint that poetic), and now i have two mangled rack cases (one in front, one in back) a dead hard drive, and a dead power supply. The rest of the components are just fine. Dell won't cover the machines if they've got physical damage, so I was planning on replacing the damaged components in house (machines cost $4500 new) starting with the chassis. I'm having one heck of a time locating the cases for these things, and was curious if anyone on the boards knew where I could possibly get a pair of these cases. I'm hunting on Ebay, but couldn't find any dead servers for sale, only new ones...and two of the parts sources I found via google don't have that component yet (the chassis/case). Help? Please? :) Sam To Unsubscribe: http://www.ipswitch.com/support/mailing-lists.html List Archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/imail_forum%40list.ipswitch.com/ Knowledge Base/FAQ: http://www.ipswitch.com/support/IMail/ To Unsubscribe: http://www.ipswitch.com/support/mailing-lists.html List Archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/imail_forum%40list.ipswitch.com/ Knowledge Base/FAQ: http://www.ipswitch.com/support/IMail/
